For the first time since the semester started, there is parking in the parking lot at 8:00 in the morning. That means only one thing–people have begun to drop theirmorning classes.
I’m sure parking is a problem for most colleges, but it seems ours, more than most, is plagued with the worst parking problem I’ve ever seen. The problem is that the main lot is the only on-campus parking for students (all of the other lots are for teachers), and last fall, they began a huge construction project, building a parking garage in the main lot.
While in the long run the parking garage will be a good thing, at the moment it sucks for every student who drives a car to school. If people wanted to find parking for a 10am class on campus, they had to be there at about 7:30 in the morning, and even then the parking was hard to find.
The only good thing is that the lightrail station is on campus, right next to the football stadium. Since every student gets a free transit pass for the semester if they go get it, anyone can park at an off-campus park-n-ride, and ride the train to class. The problem is that people see lightrail as home for bums and creepy people. Which keeps them off the train and still trying to find parking in an overfilled lot.
Well, I just wanted to say that the train is not filled with bums and creepy people. Most of the people seem normal (I mean, you can’t really tell), and everyone leaves everyone else to themselves. There is no forced interaction, and you don’t have to sit next to anyone if you don’t want to. Granted, that means you’ll be standing the whole time, but whatever, it’s your choice.
I really wish people would stop complaining about the lack of parking. They all know they can take the train, and that it would probably take less time for them to park three stops down and ride the train than it does to circle the parking lot ten times to find parking.
And I’m really glad I don’t drive to school, so I don’t have any of these problems at all.
