If this is going to be the first Saturday post in the history of the blog, it better be about something good, right?
It is, I swear. Today is the first WordCamp, and I am so there. After four weeks of waffling, I was commited last night when I rented a car for way too much1, and there was no turning back.
Going to this conference is a big step for me. There is a lot of firsts going on.
- The first time I’ve rented a car.
- The first time I’ve gone to San Francisco by my self.
- The first time I’ve taken BART2
- The first time I’ve gone to meet any internet people
- The first conference of any kind.
This is really quite a big deal for me to go. I usually skive off of set plans if the plans have been set for longer than a few days. The fact that I signed up to go the day I heard about it—and now that I’m actually here–is a huge deal.
I’m a very shy person, and knowing virtually know one is a sure sign that I’ll have no one to talk too. I’m so bad at putting myself forward. And even though I’m interested in the topic at hand, I don’t really know enough to join into the conversation. At least, I don’t think I do.
I am looking forward to meeting Anthony Cole, aka LightDifference, who I’ve been chatting will this last month on IRC. I’ll also be going all fangirl on Bryan Veloso, busting out my Avalonstar shirt for the first time. If I had a silver fabric pen, I’d totally have him sign my shirt.
I will have my camcorder with me, so expect some conference video to be hitting the site soon… It’ll be quick and dirty, the way I do all my extra media around here. And my regular camera will be making the rounds, too. Flicker should be getting quite a workout as well this weekend.
