To borrow a line from Koray, “…I really hate to meta-blog about blogging, but [I'll] do it anyways.” I really have tried to stay away from blogging about blogging, because there are so many other people that do it, and do it far better than me. When they write about blogging, it’s usually about the software they use, the plugins that enhance the WordPress experience, or something along those lines.
I, however, can’t write about any of those things. Well, I could, but I don’t think anyone would appreciate rambling on things I know nothing about. Instead, I’ll tell you what’s going on in my little corner of the blogosphere.
I am working on a blog redesign that may or may not take all year long. I have some brilliant–in my opinion at least–ideas that I’m working hard at making a reality. The hardest part is my inablility to make good looking graphics, and my minuscule knowledge of PHP. I know enough to “logic it out” so that I can figure out where I need to edit the code, and how to if-then some of my ideas, but I don’t know how to actually write out the code. I’ve been hitting my books, but mostly pulling apart WordPress themes that have elements of what I’m looking for.
At the moment, I’m hacking apart Ben’s Unsleepable, and Derek’s Foliage. I’m sure I’ll find more to pull apart as I go along. But, it’s slow going, and the inability to make decent looking graphics is pissing me the hell off. Hopefully I’ll be able to convince someone to make me the graphic I seem to need, if I can get the rest of the code to work with it.
I started the redesign back in May, and here I am in July with only superficial changes to the base I started with (I’m working on a localhost so that no one has to see my lame-ness). I’m almost ready to give up and just keep with what I’ve got. But not quite.
I’m also collecting notes for future blog posts, but who knows when they’ll ever get pulled together. I seem to have a problem with actually doing any writing over the summer, so while I’ve been lax in not always getting a post up a day, I have a feeling it will get better with the start of the semester. I love me a good deadline.
And a podcast should be coming next week, with all my birthday goodness. I’m thinking about including “real” songs on the podcast, since it’ll be by birthday and all. But, I still have to come up with some topics. Sigh.
